With our top-flight expertise in epithelial stem cell biology and cell culture, we study the differences and similarities between organ-derived, matched normal human stem cells studied in cancer-free and animal free environment and cancer stem cells from the same organ, to understand the process of carcinogenesis. We use the starting material dictated by common sense: the stem cells that are healthy in part of the organ but have become cancer elsewhere in the same organ and the same patient. We bring personalized medicine in R&D by looking at individual variations in drug responses as well as in a statistically significant number of patients.
